We wanted to share this with you to use for future reference.

Dear Champion,
I joined Champion Communications in September of last year. Being 71 and having some health problems I did not build a business. I did get my 80 year old sister in Portland, Oregon to be a customer. She met and made friends with a person that is a Rep. with LightYear Alliance. She, for various reasons thought they offered better opportunity for less than Champion. However, she is still with Champion, no money to change. In trying to please her, as I have done on previous occasions, I canceled my association with Champion on the 24th of February. It is now March 11th and I have had a dial tone for only four days since I switched. Spent untold hours troubleshooting, changed cable modems at there request and my expense, etc. etc. etc. I was happy with Champion and REGRET leaving. If it is possible, I would be most happy if I could be reinstated. I have looked into the industry and noticed, AOL, AT&T Comcast and others will soon have VoIP. I am certain there is a great future with Champion (well named)!

Sincerely,
IMR It's Good To Be Back

Welcome To Champion Communications!

Welcome To Champion Communications!

Voice-Over-Internet Protocol

Voice-Over-Internet Protocol: "What is VoIP/Internet Voice?
VoIP allows you to make telephone calls using a computer network, over a data network like the Internet. Internet telephony is even hotter.

Put them together, a growing number of industry insiders think, and you could have the hottest thing in telecom since touch tones: a cellphone that becomes a cordless phone for super-cheap Internet phone service when you get within range of a wireless Internet connection.
Don't expect to ever see this acronym smashup in a television advertisement, but it's a cellphone that can also do ''VoIP over WiFi' -- voice over Internet protocol, using a ''wireless fidelity' high-speed Internet connection.
The promise of combining the personal mobility of cellphones with the deeply discounted, rich-featured Net phone service of home is what leads executives like David W. Dorman, CEO of AT&T Corp., to call the hybrid phone concept ''a big, big deal.'
Early versions of the hybrid cellular-VoIP phone have already hit the market in Japan. And at least one WiFi-enabled cellphone offered by top US carrier Cingular Wireless can have a voice-over-Internet application installed for use at hot spots.
However, most industry observers expect it will take another year or more before the hybrid phones really hit the US market. And because they will probably cost $800 or $1,000 per unit, the first models are most likely to be marketed to Fortune 500 companies, said Richard Webb, a market analyst at Infonetics Research. But by 2009, Webb said, one of every 20 cellphones sold worldwide will have WiFi voice capability.
Big corporate or institutional customers are promising candidates, because many work in office buildings or campuses with extensive WiFi coverage.
Greg's obsession de' jour
In my efforts to add the words 'wireless savvy' to my network admin resume, I've been reading books and web pages on radio propagation, antenna theory and design, and building wireless networks with 802.11 (WiFi). One of the first things that got me excited was the Pringles Can Antenna. Published on the internet and in a fine book by Rob Flickenger, the net admin for O'Reilly, this design for a do-it-yourself, VERY inexpensive antenna made from a recycled junkfood container is as cool as the other side of the pillow. It seems that everyone is building and using these. The various community wireless network groups all talk about them and folks are reporting that they do the job.
A friend of mine built his before me and looking at his finished antenna got me excited to understand the theory of how it works. Reviewing his plan, I came up with different spacing that he Rob did. To see if I could improve upon the design, I built mine with corrected spacing. While waiting for some wireless equipment to come in, I started looking for my next antenna project. Oddly, the more I studied, the less I understood. There seems to be quite a bit of confusion on how the Pringles antenna works and what design category it falls under. The inner lining of a Pringles can looks metallic, but my tests show it not to be. The Pringles Antenna design, and some designs that pre-date it, seem to treat it as though it were metallic. While folks are calling it a"

The Dartmouth Online

The Dartmouth Online: "College removes long-distance fees
By Kaitlin Bell, The Dartmouth Staff
Published on Monday, July 7, 2003

Lisa Chau/The Dartmouth Staff
On July 1, Dartmouth Network Services began a free long-distance plan.
That the College has decided to give students, faculty and staff free long-distance calling might seem paradoxical in a time of persistent budget worries, but a new system that does just this will save both Dartmouth and Dartmouth students money in the end, according to officials in Network Services.
The new-sprung plan, which went into effect July 1, allows free long-distance service to all 50 U.S. states and Canada. Students wishing to make international calls through the College can arrange to have the service charged to a credit card.
This serves as a marked change to the old, now-defunct Dartalk system, in which students set up declining balance accounts for a pre-determined number of minutes or had calls charged to a credit card -- a system that caused Telephone Services a major headache when it came to billing, Telecommunications and Network Services director Bob Johnson said.
'We finally realized that it was costing us more to do the billing than it was to make the calls,' Johnson said, noting that the labor cost of tracking down students who hadn't paid and marketing Dartalk far exceeded the amount the system brought in. In order to pay for the labor, the College would have been forced to over bill students.
Instead, Dartmouth is now providing long-distance telephone service free, like it does internet service, electricity and other utilities. The upside is money saved for both the College and for students. The downside: fewer staff employed in Telephone Services, although Johnson said positions would be eliminated through attrition, not layoffs.
The new pla"

VoipLoud.com

Champion Communications

Visit Champion Communications Website to Sign Up.

Wi-Fi Voip Is Almost Here!

Does sitting at the local cafe or airport terminal and using your home or business phone number to make and receive unlimited calls sound SMART?!

Join the revolution now! Wi-VOD deployed it using a Department of Homeland Security grant; the network is managed by the Arizona Telecommunications and Information Council. Get this: Wi-VOD claims it was able to make multi-party VoIP conference calls at speeds in excess of 130 kilometres per hour (80mph) sustained over the entire network.

Before you all start yakking on your Wi-Fi PDAs breaking Arizona speeding laws, please note that the network is for public safety personnel (police, fire, ambulance and border partrol) first, with various community agencies, schools, business and local residents being added as the deployment expands beyond its targeted coverage areas. [Attention anti-muni broadband legislators: check out this deployment.]

Commenting on the test, Chief Mike Foster, Rio Rico Fire Department said: “We needed to increase our ability to communicate in the field. Having mobile voice and high-speed Internet access in our mobile units on the highways delivers what we are looking for. The speed at which the mobile VoIP worked was very impressive. It will greatly increase our in-field communications and effectiveness."

Wi-VOD demonstrated the first phase of the network, 4.9 miles (8 km), earlier this month. The network contained four RoamAD network nodes located on average 1.2 miles (less than 2 km) apart and interconnected wirelessly. The network will be expanded to cover 32 continuous miles (54 km) of highway and is scheduled for completion before May of this year. According to Verizon, this is impossible.

Read more about Verizon's wireless FUD on Glenn's site. It's pretty hilarious after the Rio Rico public safety officers' experience with mobile Wi-Fi.

******COMMENTS******

Ken DiPietro of New-ISP, NextGenCommunications writes:

That is a great press release but they are a little late - like four years! As quoted from Steve Stroh's blog,

"Mobile-enabled BWIA Technology is so available, so off-the-shelf, that I wrote a feature article about it in FOCUS On Broadband Wireless Internet Access... in 2001! The article was a profile of Odessa Office Equipment, a Wireless Internet Service Provider (WISP) serving the Eastern Washington community of Odessa and surrounding areas. Here's the relevant excerpt from the article:

One of the more startling demonstrations of OOE’s wireless Internet access service that I was given during my stay was mobile wireless Internet access. OOE has outfitted several patrol cars from the local Sheriff’s department for wireless Internet access, which is accessed via existing laptop computers. Reports can be composed in the field, and transmitted via email. Deputy Kelly, who graciously gave me a brief ride to demonstrate the system, was startled when I burst out laughing at the situation of, being mobile in Odessa Washington… I had better [mobile] Internet connectivity than what was available to me at my home in Woodinville, Washington only a few miles away from the high-tech colossus of Microsoft Corp. in Redmond, Washington. I can attest that mobile Internet access in Odessa Washington works, and works well.

Lake City Voip

Lake City Voip

Lake City Voip

Lake City Voip: "Welcome to a Winning Team

Welcome to a phone service that gives you control of your bills.
